Our mum experienced something awful the night of the 17th August 2013. There was an elderly woman in my mum's ward who required assistance; she was unable to press the button to call a nurse. Our mum got out of bed to attempt to call someone. When she wandered down the passage low and behold all the night staff was taking a well-deserved nap (some with blankets over their heads)? My mum then mentioned this to Dr. Tilley and suggested that she should approach the matron and lay a complaint, which she did.
Later that evening a man called Sipho; apparently the night nurse approached our mum. He pointed his finger to her face and told her to shut up and if she had any problems she should speak to him, this is his hospital and she should rather go. The rest of the night staff surround her bed when this incident occurred. Later that evening she asked for a sleeping pill. They supposedly gave her a sleeping pill, but instead of sleeping, she ended up using the toilet the whole night? This is a concerning thought, as they have the power to give people any medication? Asking for any help on floor 7 and 8 is hopeless; the staff simply does not care.
