I went to Eugene Marais Hospital on Monday evening after being involved in a car accident on Saturday evening. I received the worst service ever. First there is a waiting period (of approximately 2 hours - which is completely unacceptable for a private hospital) then when the doctor (Dr L Engelbrecht) eventually saw me she attended to me for less than 2 minutes then sent me for x-rays. I complained of neck and chest pain but was only sent for a neck x-ray. 30 minutes after the x-ray I was given a prescription. I was not told what was wrong with me or what the x-ray revealed, just that i should fetch the x-rays the next day. I find this completely unacceptable because this is a service that I am paying for. When I asked if the prescription would help with my chest pain the doctor said I didn't mention anything about my chest (this despite the fact that she asked the nursing sister to do an ECG). The hospital has submitted a claim to the medical aid and I am particularly infuriated by this because I'm not sure what they are charging me for. I do not know what is wrong, what is causing the pain or the extent of the injuries. For a private hospital, their service is quiet pathetic.
