My son was circumcised at Morningside Clinic 2 months ago. The estimate I received from Mediclinic was R2500 for the procedure possibly reaching R5000 if there were complications. I saw both the surgeon and anesthetist after the procedure and both confirmed that there were no complications.
The bill I received came to R7400! I was told that increase was due to extended theatre time due to complications. One of the other children in the ward that day did react to the anesthetic and it seems very obvious to me that they've mistaken my son for him. This is extremely negligent especially for a hospital.
I have confirmed this the surgeon on two occasions since that there were no complications. He also mentioned that he had complained several times about the tardiness of staff in the theatre on that day. Something I noticed myself when I was called into the theatre after my son had woken from the anesthetic.
The onus is now on me to get a letter from the surgeon stating that there were no complications. How incredibly unprofessional! They can't tell one client from the next, and have to spent time and money proving them wrong.
