Two weeks ago we established that my mom had a type of blood cancer which devastated the family. After going to various specialist and trouble to get test approved we found that it was a B-cell abnormality confirming amylyodosis. The hymotologist, Prof Novetski advise a bone marrow biopsy needed to be done to confirm the diagnosis of the treatment needed. On the14 May 2013, we had a scheduled appointment to conduct the bone marrow test but we were turned back as the Bonitas medical refused to approve the procedure. We attempted to get the approval since 7th May 2013 but all attempts failed and not sufficient reasons were given. We now need to wait another two weeks to confirm an appointment for a bone marrow test. We find that the medical aid has not supported the family in registering our mother as a cancer patient. Getting Bonitas Medical Aid to approve procedure has now been a real difficulty and in most instances consultation was paid cash. I'm requesting the medical aid to give more support and assist the patient much quicker with approvals. my email - shaheedajacobs@telkomsa.
