I used to encourage my friends and colleagues to choose Bonitas as I viewed Bonitas to be a no-nonsense, reliable and honest medical aid... that was until recently when I experienced the dark side of Bonitas.
My wife needed urgent heart operation and there was no time to waste since her condition was critical. She phoned Bonitas to get hospital authorisation number and the name of the surgeon, his practice number, and the name of the hospital and mitral valve quotation were requested. In all her communications with Bonitas, she was never told that Bonitas would not cover the full amount of the surgery because the surgeon was not affiliated to Bonitas. What is worse, she was never told that Bonitas has a chain of specialist doctors who perform such an operation. We only learnt of this when Bonitas refused to pay for some of the procedures that were carried out in the theatre. This is disappointing and dishonest to say the least as we are now stuck with a high bill to settle. I now view Bonitas with the scepticism with which I view many other medical aids out there and needless to say, would never advertise them to friends, colleague and family anymore.
