I purchased a brand new SONY 3D Blu Ray DVD player and a regular Blu Ray DVD player in September / October 2012 from a recognised distributor of theirs. (We bought a lot of new stuff end of last year and I cant remember which store this was bought from).
Within the last 3 months the Blu Ray 3D DVD had developed an issue with the HDMI link and the DVD's it plays looses picture after a few minutes. The regular DVD player has lost the funtionality of LCD display on the front of the player. I called Sony, chose their support option, spoke to a consultant who directed me to SVS Electronics in Midrand.
On arrival there I was told by the store owner or manager that they needed my proof of purchase.
Without this they could not process my claim under waranty. I called SONY again from there and they said the same thing.
The bottom line is, SONY will not honour warranties if you do not have proof of purchase, even if the goods are less than a year old ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD and the warranty is for a year. SONY want the numbers not the satisfied customers.
SONY want to charge for as much as possible!
Yamaha serviced my 10 year old GREY imported amplifier last year, NO QUESTIONS for R 280. hmmm
