We had a minor plumbing job that we needed doing, and had received a flyer in our postbox from "Peter the Plumber" adverting Free Quotes. We phoned him and asked for a quote and he was very helpful.
After Peter and his helper arrived in a vehicle from Matloga Plumbers, we explained the situation to him. He immediately started digging to see what the problem was (it took him no more than 5 minutes, as the ground was nice and soft after the rain, and the location of the problem was exactly known. Our gardener was ready to help dig, but he was too quick). After much persuasion, he explained how he would fix it (he didn't want to tell us beforehand) and what he would charge. We could immediately see that he wasn't going to do a satisfactory job, so very nicely told him that we would like to get other quotes first. He then became very aggressive, swearing at us, and demanded a call-out fee of R450. We asked him why he advertised Free Quotes, and said that there was a difference between just speaking and actually doing work (digging).
When he was so rude and aggressive, we were just glad to get him off our property again.
