Mike Vanderwalt of Legacy Kitchens was contracted to convert a double garage into a granny cottage. The total cost to me was R120, 000.00 - which I now know was exhorbitent. 2 years later, my cottage is colapsing. The tiles are falling off the walls due to not being cemented properly. All the grouting between the floor tiles is crumbling. The Rhinoboard interior walls have pulled away from the outer walls. The sliding door is coming away from its frame and the wall above this door has broken due to there being no lintel used. The laminate flooring has all lifted. In a nutshell, the cottage is collapsing. I have been told by 2 independent builders that the entire cottage could have been built from scratch for under R100, 000.00. I am a single lady, and have certainly been taken for a ride! Mr Vanderwalt does not respond to my calls, and as his work carried only a 2 year guarantee, I have no recourse but to move out of the cottage and find somewhere else to stay. This man sure saw me coming!
