Faulty Acer External Hardrive

Bought an Acer external hardrive form Makro. Copied everything across then it said we had to format the drive before it would work, so ended up losing a lot of media. External hard drives should not need to be formatted. Then, a few days later it just stopped working -= nothing. Unable to retrieve any media. Really dissapointed with Acer, will not be buying any Acer products in the future.
