When buying my Mecer laptop I was trying to support a local company thinking they're after sales support would be better; what a mistake that was! I bought a Mecer W 765 cq a little over a year ago and I am very disappointed with the product that I am now stuck with. The first thing to go wrong was the hard drive; Mecer had to replace as it was within the guaranteed period. All credit to Mecer / Mustek for service efficiency, it was fairly painless. That being said, I still had to replace my software at great cost to myself.
Only 4 weeks later, now out of the warranty period, the battery of the unit packed up. This pc is only a year old, other laptops that I had for way longer did not give me half the hassles. This prompted me to do a little homework on Mecer; in as far as this range is concerned the product may be branded as Mecer but it is in fact just a rebrand. The original manufacturer's name is Clevo, which means that Mecer simply rebranded this Chinese manufacturer's products. My pc is in fact as non-SA as can be. Also, the driver Repository for my product, has not been updated since September 2012! All of this leaves a really bad taste in my proudly South African mouth!
