My husband took my iPhone to iFix Melrose Arch yesterday for a repair. The technician took it apart and quoted him R1 000 for the repair and an additional R200 to expedite the service (which he was quite happy to pay). When my husband went to collect the phone an hour later, they told him that the phone was ready but that the cost was now R1 500! When he queried this, they said that the original price was an estimate and that they had emailed this info to him. If he paid for 1 hour expedited service, how would he check his email in that time period??? Surely when the technician took the phone apart originally and saw what needed to be done, prices etc were all available. I feel that they were taking a chance because the phone was now fixed and needed to be paid for. After much arguing, the manager finally agreed to give my husband R150 off the price bringing it down to R1 350. This is UNACCEPTABLE. I expect to hear back about this or I will approach the consumer board to find out what my rights are.
