Yesterday morning and again today (and indeed, other recent experiences in the same Express) I could not hear the cashier when he told me what I owed. There are two reasons for this- first the cashiers seem reluctant to move their faces anywhere near the grille in the glass. Second, the music in the shop is too loud. It took 3-4 attempts by me to figure out what I owed. When I told the guy the music was too loud he shrugged and pointed to a door with a "key turning" motion, and I think he was telling me he had no control over the volume since the controls were in a locked office. Not sure- I couldn't hear him.
Of course, if the displays on the tills worked properly and or were better positioned to be read by the customer, I wouldn't have to wait for the cashier to tell me what I owed.
Oh and by the way, it's over six months (check HP for 3 August) since you replied that you were looking into changing the cumbersome payment scheme at the coffee counter. I noted today that it's still the same. So I'm wondering if you just fobbed me off with a response and then binned it?
(BTW, this is the Express on the north side of Broadway next to Audi, not on the south side along near Toyota.)
