R8000 alternator VS R35 fuse

On Wednesday morning the battery light on the dash remained on while the engine was running. I contacted Barons VW Tokai and the service advisor said I could drop the car on Thursday morning and they will look at it. I called Rowan (Service Advisor) for a update and he told me the alternator is definitely not charging and I am looking at R8000 to replace the alternator. I agreed to fetch the car without being repaired as R8000 seemed way to ridiculous for an alternator. I took my car to Southfield Auto Electricians on Friday the guy ask me to open the bonnet use a handheld tester check the alternator, then opened the fuse box on the battery and showed me a broken fuse which was the cause of the alternator not charging.

Somehow I found it absolutely disgustingly untrustworthy of Barons VW not to exhaust all possibilities before jumping to their ridiculous suggestion that would have costed me R8000 instead of R35. That some other workshop could find the fault but Barons VW could not. I am just wondering how much Barons VW have ripped me off over the years while having all my cars serviced and repaired by them. Total rip off thanks for nothing...
