I took my car in for a service last Friday and was told that because I drive a SAAB it's a "Premium" vehicle and they therefore charge me a "Premium" labour rate - all fine if you actually get premium service! As I get home the engine starts misfiring badly - I've lost one of the cylinders. I take the car back to them first thing on Saturday morning and tell them to check it out. The service consultant tells me that the "Premium" mechanic is not available so they can't help me. I reply by saying they must not make their problem mine. So she gets someone to look at my car (it turns out that this guy is an apprentice only). The consultant happily comes to me saying that I need to replace my coil pack which will cost me R9, 000.00 and take 2-3 days to order. Immediately I say as there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car before I took it for the service. She remains adamant that that is the problem and I take it or leave it. I leave it and get a friend who is a mechanic to come meet me there. Another mechanic sees us standing there and comes out to offer help. We pickup that there is a faulty spark plug (a R50 part) - and they were going to charge me R9k!!!?!
