The owner franchisee (white male) of the Ocean Basket at Stone Ridge Mall and Edenvale added a new meaning to customer service in Edenvale. After three Indian families wanted to express their displeasure with the service of the staff at the franchise located in the Edenvale area, the owner rudely and arrogantly asked them to leave and stated that "this is typical". The Family had then gone to the Stoneridge Ocean Basket where they were told by staff, that the resturaunt is closed. The time at that point was around 21:00, whilst the signage directly behind staff displayed a closing time of 22:00. The owner had followed the family to the Stoneridge store and announced that he is the owner of both franchises and that "we can take our business elsewhere", as we were not welcome in his store. The owner then aggressively passed remarks by stating that we should go back to Durban if we required service and that he has the right to deny us access into his store. This behaviour was displayed in front of various customers as well as the children of the family being turned away. Even if the customer is difficult, there is no reason for public humiliation and prejudice
