My partner and I went to John Dory's Richards Bay four months ago and the sushi was horrifying.
The rice was overcooked, soft, wet and mushy. It literally turned into a starchy paste when I bit into it.
The rice also lacked any discernible taste.
The salmon was not fresh either, it had darkened around the edges and smelled fishy.
The nori was soft and moist.
We took one bite and literally spat it out onto our plates
Despite all this, we were still asked to pay for the sushi.
The amount of wasabi and ginger we were given was nothing short of extreme.
A huge pile of ginger and a giant knob of wasabi.
This makes me think that the ginger and wasabi we were given must have come from someone else's plate, since the wasabi and ginger alone would have cost more than the fishy rice pap we were given.
John Dory's does a great job when it comes to their prawns, their fish and their chips.
But the sushi is absolutely horrifying.
It is clear to me that even the manager did not know what sushi was supposed to look or taste like as I had to explain to him how sushi is supposed to be.
If you want to sell sushi, get a sushi chef and make no compromises.
