Retrenchment insurance not applicable due to age

My father has been with ABSA for many years. He was called by ABSA to change his credit limit a few times and as such he used his credit card knowing that he had an increased limit.
He was recently retrenched (27/02/2013). Was was initially told that the insurance would pay out the outstanding balance.
The blance was not paid and he spoke to some-one from ABSA today about why this insurance had not paid the balance on the credit card as yet and he was told that because he is over 60 (he is 62), the retrenchment benefit does not apply. This sounds ridiculous and appalling if this is the case.
I have been trying to call 012 3173088 all afternoon long and I just get an engaged toned. This is all really upsetting.

I have been with ABSA for 15 years and I am a Private Banking client and now this has gotten me worried about my own finances with ABSA.

I will keep trying to get a hold of some-one to help resolve this for my father but I am quite saddened at the way he has been treated by ABSA. Especially after being retrenched!
