Slow progress over a car claim

A month ago on the 23 of February 2013 i had an accident with my VW Golf GTI 2.T then i lodged the claim with the Auto and general on the same day. i have the comprehensive cover with the insurance company and they assessed the vehicle and declared the vehicle uneconomical to repair the car (written off). The investigation was conducted and the insurance requested me to get the settlement letter and copy of car registration from my finance company of which i did and sent the information to them and await the claim to be finalised. As their customer i am the only one doing the follow up on the claim As they keep on promising to come back to me of which they never did sometimes their telephone line will ring without any response. so as a customer i would like the hello peter to intervene on this matter and assist me because i am very frustrated with the fact of staying without any means of transport to go to work. i feel like Auto and general is not taking my claim very seriously. as they informed me last week on the that they are still waiting to check with the police station to verify if i don't have any case in relation with the accident but 7 days has elapsed for them to verify that
