I have been a client of FNB for 20 years, and am currently a platinum client. I put in an OTP on a new home and understandably approached my bank to assist with the financing. According to FNBs online calculator I more than qualify for the bond amount, have little to no debt, have an account in good standing with no overdraft and a very small credit card balance. In addition, I am only wanting to finance a portion of the bond as I have a cash deposit of almost half a million rand. After logging my details online, and my application disappearing into an abyss which is still to be found, 2 weeks later I am no closer to getting any answers out of FNB. I have been advised that the full amount has not been approved as my salary does not warrant a bond of that amount despite their own online calculators identifying otherwise. After a few days into this laborious process I realised that perhaps I should consider my other options and approached the other banks who have NO relationship with me and they managed to approve the full amount, at a better interest rate, effortlessly within 24 hours! FNB should save their billions from the Steve campaign to learn about risk and client retention!
