Absa
Absa, MTN and Capitec

One day after I upgraded my cellular contract at MTN Cape Road, Port Elizabeth, I lost connection and got a "no service" message on my phone. At 20h52 on that Friday evening an illegal SIM swap took place at a dealer: Phigerton Three Rivers T/A Cell & Satelite. I was not aware of the sim swap until the Sunday when I visited the MTN Shop to find out what's wrong with my cell connection. They informed me of the sim swop and the possibility that it could be. I went to an Absa ATM to find out that R97000 was transfered into a Capitec account. Absa doesn't take any responsibility for the obvious flaws in their system and accuses me of responding to phishing e-mails - which I have never done! MTN is silent. Why did Absa allow a transaction of this proportion if it's out of character on my account? Why is there no waiting period from Absa and Capitec's side? How Could MTN allow such an illegal transaction on their systems? It feels like an inside job. The money was released from Capitec seconds later and from there it went into different accounts. Absa couldn't tell me this. I had to find that out via other routes. Absa is only covering themselves, no interest in clients!
