July 2013 my internet banking was compromised and R20 200 was via a sim swap. An investigation was launched by ABSA which concluded that it was an online transaction and my login details is my responsibility- they will not refund any money. How my login details were compromised I do not know. The only answer ABSA can give is "you answered a phishing mail". I do not and have not answered any phishing mails. Within 2min of receiving proof of payment of the transactions I was in conversation with the ABSA call centre asking for it to be stopped. I was told that this was not possible. There was no immediate action to recover funds or to trace the transactions. Adding insult to injury my credit card was maxed out by the and ABSA will make money by charging me interest. My cellphone service provider has been put in question-I experienced much better service from them. The relationship between a bank and its clients is based on trust that the bank will be able to keep your assets safe; this puts that in serious doubt. The integrity of the system remains ABSA's responsibility.
