How long can it take to process a claim

Our home was burgled end January 2013. We submitted the claim with Budget 26 January 2013 and after waiting a week for the police for the A1 statement we submitted all the proof as requested by 4 February 2013. A work laptop was also that is not covered in our policy but the laptop was added to the amount for the claim and now has to be handled by a senior person even though the laptop will not be paid by Budget. Ten days later the website still shows the first person working with the claim and we have no clue who works with the claim and how long it will take to finalize or just get a response. I work for myself and without my laptop I do not receive an income. Easy to take money but not so easy to pay out. Lots of yes but's when the claim was submitted that was never mentioned anywhere when we accepted the policy. The work laptop was replaced within two working days by her employers insurance no problem. I must be one of the lucky ones that pays on time everytime but when I need the insurance payment takes forever. Whats the use of insurance if it makes your life miserable and a shlep to sort out.
