Take more that what is owed

Get an SMS on the 09/01/2014 telling me they have deducted R2000 out of my account, the outstanding balance is only around R1500. All of this is done with no communication whatsoever over a period when most people are going to be battling due to the festive season and the large expenses that have been incurred as well as the fact that their salaries have to last longer than normal because of being paid earlier.
I have spoken to a teamleader in the legal department who can not explain why the amount was deducted.
I would like to know what gives a bank the right to deduct whatever amount out of a clients account with no explanation at all.
This is a great example of a company that has very little ethics or principles.
