I am an 87 year old widow living off my government pension. My premises were recently ransacked, most of my possessions and the premises extensively damaged together with my car being. I am left penniless. I have regularly paid my insurance premiums. Santam has declined the claim stating that I was untruthful when supplying information to them when I took out the policy. After demanding a copy of the policy and having received same, I have noted that my son has been listed as "other insured" in the policy. It appears that the "untruth" relates to a policy previously cancelled in HIS NAME (and not mine) that was not disclosed. I refute having ever authorised Santam to appoint my son as " other insured" on my policy and have demanded transcripts from Santam to substantiate otherwise. In addition, a claim relating to the same crime, but under a different policy with Santam (for smashed gates) in my grandchild's name and which ALSO reflects my son as "other insured" on that policy, was in fact PAID. Quite clearly discrimination against the elderly is A OK at Santam. Also I have been treated with contempt by Santam's personnel. CAVEAT EMPTOR!! BE FOREWARNED old people!!
