On the 17th December 2013, my debit order went off for R175.34, but due to the Monday 16th being a Public Holiday, the deposit was only reflected on the 18th, I was therefore on the 17th short of about R134-00 to meet that debit order. But the following day the 18th the deposit reflected, Standard Bank returned my debit order and charged me R115-00. I phoned the call centre, 2 x the person on the other side put down the phone, and the third person I spoke to, said that if I dont have the funds to meet my debit orders the bank cant do anything, i must ensure I have the funds, I tried explaining about the public holiday, I know its partly my fault but I cant help it being a public holiday and banks are closed.
Furthermore I have banked with Standard Bank since 1983 and have 2 accounts with them, surely if they see my history they can see regular deposits in my business account.
I am not worried about the R115 charge but the debit order with Pastel Accounting with whom I have paid without fail since 2008, and I dont want them to mistrust me, and perhaps not give me a monthly payment plan again. I feel that banks dont access your account properly, and check your history first.
