Problems Activating Cheque Card

I've had a frustrating first experience with FNB. I was so impressed at the efficient and helpful way they assisted me in opening an account and transferring debits, etc. but the process to activate my cheque card is a nightmare.

First, the instructions in the couriered letter for activating the card online do not work - there is no 'cards' tab as described, and when I do enter the card details, ironically, I'm given a message saying the card isn't active yet (um, wasn't that the point?).

Then I called the card helpline on 087 575 9404, and listened to a very strange warning (before getting to an agent) saying I might pay R52 for asking for assistance! I was transferred to three agents, each time without warning, and had to repeatedly and carefully enter the last 8 digits of the card plus the hash key, each time to be told by an automated system that I had not entered sufficient digits and had to try again. Eventually I gave up after SEVEN attempts and three agents.

I think I'd better go into a branch to sort this out, but the whole point of switching to FNB was to do less of that.
