Capitec Bank
Ignoring My Election to Opt out of Marketing

I opened an account with Capitec Bank on 4 November 2013 - When asked for my cell phone number I specifically told them I did not want ANY marketing or ANY sort. I ticked the opt out of marketing box. This was ignored and I have subsequently received numerous texts from them. I called the Opt out number on 13 November at the end of the text to once again re-iterate that I did not want any marketing sent to my cell phone - after much holding and being transferred at my own expense I eventually found someone who agreed to take me off their mailing list. Lo and Behold I have received further texts - with the apparent option to 'call this number to opt out' - calling the number simply leads to further marketing.

Direct marketing if a consumer has not opted in specifically (and i have in fact tried twice to opt out) is against the consumer protection act. I am extremely frustrated with companies like capitec who ignore this and inundate my phone with text messages, leaving me to take time out of my day when expecting urgent texts for work, to dig through my hand bag only to receive one of these annoying invasive messages
