FNB called me with an offer for airtime, data and sms's. I was repeatedly assured that the offer was not a contract. The tele-sales person confirmed this again and again. I was insisting on clarity due to a terrible experience with MTN previously regarding a contract. In her words, "I will send you an sms now with the details" - I never received this and have no contact email. She also said: "You will receive the papers by the end of the week" (8 November 2013) of course I get these today (13 November 2013).
I was told that I would receive a package and had to sign for it.
Only once the courier arrived did he say here is your new sim card and your contract document. I refuse to be pushed into a contract whereby telesales personnel cannot tell you exactly what it is that you will be getting ie. a contract. I promptly scrawled "cancelled" over the delivery note.
I feel offended that the consumer act is not protecting people from this guerilla-type-telephonic harassment which is completely misleading.
