I have an Elite bank account with Standard Bank. After receiving my card i could not create an internet profile because there was no account linked to the card. I went to a branch in Benoni and was told that it was actually linked to someone else's account but the consultant who helped delink the account told me it was fine and I can transact on it. Soon after, i noticed some transactions did not reflect on my statement, i went to the branch they told me they were not picking up anything sinister on my account even after calling the general banking division the response was still the same. On th 26 September I received a letter of demand stating that i owed the bank R6677.04, reason being that my card was linked to another customers account and that if I don't pay I will be liable for legal costs and will be listed to Joint Banks and the Credit Bureau. How does a bank that I have banked with for seven years get it so wrong!
