Discovery Billing Frustration

I have a Discovery Card which I was not using, after a few months I got a message that the account has been handed to lawyers/ collection company. There was no explanation or call to say that if the card is not funded one incurs charges. I made an arrangement to settle the outstanding debt of R1159, the next morning I got a call that the debt has gone up to R1400.
I asked for the card to be cancelled so I can query the charges in the meantime, I was told that cannot be done, I then called Discovery to have the matter resolved. I was promised that a manager would get back to me around 16th September to see if some of the charges could be reversed, I am still waiting and in the meantime the charges keep racking up. The SMS texts I initially got were for a clicks credit card, which I do not have and suspected were spam.
