I took out a laptop with Fnb a while ago and now that I want to downgrade my account from a cheque to a savings, I am unable to. According to the consultant that I spoke to yesterday at the Germiston branch I cannot downgrade because they will not be able to debit my account for the laptop. I don't understand what difference it will make as my account number will not change. I don't see the need to pay the service fees for cheque account that's no longer in use, just to keep it open for 1 debit order to run off. FNB refused to close the account and debit the money from my new account which is not a Fnb account and neither do they want to downgrade the account. I am now forced to pay unnecessary money to make FNB richer. When the laptop contract was taken out, I was not informed that the account cannot be downgraded or closed. I need this account downgraded or closed as I no longer use this account. I also cancelled the insurance on this laptop sometime in September but the consultant advised that the debit for the insurance is still active. This is a huge inconvenience to me and I hope that FNB is able to sort this out ASAP.I cannot keep taking time off work to get this sorted.
