Closing off Account to find its not closed off

On the 27th Dec 2012 I upgraded my Nedbank account from a savings to a cheque account and I was very impressed with the service I received from the above mentioned branch. On closing my savings account I made mention to the lady that I will still have a debit order run off this account and don't want to incure an bank charges and she advised me that once the account is closed there will be no further charges and proceeded to cut my card up and tell me the account is closed.

I have recently found out that this is not the case and the account was debited and now my savings account is in arrears and I owe R158 which I have to pay in order to close the account and prevent further interest from accumulating.

I was so happy with the service I received on the 27th Dec 2012 that I cancelled my application with FNB but after this inconvenience I may as well open up this account with FNB where I have heard from numerous people that their service is excellent.
