SAIPA
Non Protection of Trainee Accountants'

I did my 3 year practical at a SAIPA Trainee Centre. My Employer registered me as a Trainee Accountant on my behalf. From time to time he sent me to CPD courses. As he was my employer I did not ask any questions and did as I was told. After I left the company I contacted SAIPA and gave them my new contact details. (Years after these CPD courses) Then I learned that he booked me for CPD courses on my account on my behalf for tax deductions purposes. SAIPA forwarded all accounts to him and I never saw them or were aware of them. Now suddenly they are forwarding them to me for the first time and want the money from me. How can SAIPA allow this to happen to Trainee Accountants and allow Training Centres to mismanage Trainees' accounts with themselves like this? They even handed me over to their lawyers now even though the invoices have prescribed as they are older that 3 years. They can not proof that I enrolled my self for any CPD courses or that they initially forwarded the invoices to me as if this was the case and I became aware that this was done on my account and I needed to pay I would have refused to go to these courses. They do not protect their trainee accountants at all!!!
