I submitted an application to apply to the COTE. On submission, I immediately paid the application fee of R448. More than a week later, I received an e-mail stating that I needed to take an exam and that an additional R847 needed to be paid. I then immediately contacted SAIPA stating that I was not made aware of any exam that needed to be written, nor that an exam fee had to be paid. This was not mentioned anywhere on the SAIPA website. I was made to believe that the application fee needed to be paid and thereafter the annual subscription fees - that's all. I spoke to a lady by the name of Luyanda Makhanya and she ensured me that my application fee would be refunded. This morning I received an e-mail saying that management has cancelled my application but that my fee cannot be refunded. I am absolutely livid! SAIPA falsely advertised information and when this was brought to my attention and I questioned it, I am told that my application fee is non-refundable.
