Called to get a quote on car, building & contents. Refused to insure me because my alarm is not linked to a security company. I explained that our complex does not have guards & that if the alarm was linked & it went off while we are not home, that the security company will not be able to get into the complex to check on our house & that therefore it would be a waste of money to pay a security company. They do not care! It's as if it is 1945 & they have never come across anyone that lives in an enclosed "complex" without guards at the gate. I d have an alarm that sends both my husband & I a message when it is triggered with the exact location of where it was triggered & we are then able to act. Even telling them that we have beams all around the house which would be triggered long before anyone was able to reach the actual house did not satisfy them. They also had a problem with the fact that I cannot have a security gate on my front door because the door is a very large swing door - not a standard size door. So, if you are fortunate enough to have a more expensive house that has these features, find another insurer cause Santam doesn't want your money
