Standard Bank
Taking forever to sort out a problem!

On 3 August the electricity failed while a Standard Bank ATM was dispensing money I withdrew from my cheque account, and I received only R300 of the R1000 requested. When the electricity supply was restored I immediately withdrew the required R700 as I needed to pay labourers. I noticed that my bank statement reflected both withdrawals. I reported the situation to Standard Bank's call center on 6 August, and was promised feedback within 10 working days. When no feedback was received by 22 August I called again, and was promised that I would get feedback within 24 hours. Again, no feedback. When I called on 26 August it was clear that NOTHING was done as the ATM was stated to be in Pretoria (not Marloth Park). The excuse given for the lack of feedback was that they didn't have my cellphone number - one of the items used to verify that I am the account holder! What BS! A supervisor called me back, and repeated this fairy tale, and promised me feedback the same day. Later the day she called again, apologising for the delay, but promised feedback on 27 August. It is now 28 August, and I believe I am entitled to a full rebate on my bank charges for the month, AND the R700.
