After a week of struggling to complete an application for a loan (having to send documents a number of times, getting sms's long after hours as to what new documents to send which in most cases have already been sent - can't they send the sms's during the day so that the process can move forward quicker), I finally get told that FNB cannot help me because although a South African citizen, and although having had a valid account for a number of years with them, I don't work for a South African company. Hence they cannot validate that I am employed, or something to that effect.

I'm curious then as to why I had to send through payslips, 3 months bank statements (even though I bank with FNB) to confirm employment. But no sorry. Unless I work within the South African borders, they cannot help me.

Interesting how other banks (ABSA for example) has been so quick and ready to want to help me... but why should I need to get helped by other banks? Time to start looking for another bank to bank with.
