Yesterday I made an EFT through the Standard Bank internet banking channel. When I got the mail confirming the transaction, the bank was down incorrectly. Assuming the mistake was mine I sent an email to the help desk explaining the error. Having not had a reply by morning I called the customer care. After being put on hold for 5min I ran out of airtime. So for starters this should be a toll free line! I recharged and called again and was assured that the banks name was automatically changed to the one reflected so it was not a problem. Later today I got an email stating that if I want to reverse the payment a) it will cost me R245 rand (more than the total of my transaction) b) It is not guaranteed to be successful, and c) it will take 25 working days. The bank charges we pay are already ridiculous and this is just crazy.
