Application stalled by Bank's requirements

We applied through an estate agent for a house in the Alveda residential development. The agency forwarded our application to all the major banks, all of whom have responded. However our preference has always been Standard bank, therefore we have not accepted other offers. Our application to Standard Bank has been prevented from proceeding because when the bank attempted to obtain the main applicant's credit record, they used an incorrectly spelt surname with the correct ID number. Standard bank now requires us to obtain written verification from Home Affairs of the correct surname and ID number combination. Home affairs have refused to grant such verification because the details of the main applicant have never changed since birth. The only verification is the applicants ID book. This is frustrating especially since the error was not made by us but the bank itself. We have logged a query with home loans but still have not received a response
