In February this year our borehole pumped stopped working due to roots getting into the pump 20 metres below the surface. We paid a large amount of money to get it fixed and then claimed from the insurance. The insurers decided that the policy was for known perils only, and roots were not covered as a known peril. However another clause states that if the borehole pump is damaged by any other cause other than wear or tear or deterioration, then they MAY pay up. Mutual and Federal have refused to bend and as such we have put a complaint to the ombudsman. We now wait as the ombudsman say they are really busy (it is now June!) I thought that the ombudsman was supposed to help the lay man - but they have not helped us at all - we are like David fighting the Goliath, Mutual and Federal
