My daughter Jana Roos tried to cancel her Planet Fitness membership after several years, as she left South Africa to work abroad. She was told that this is impossible as the contract had to run its course - acceptable. After paying membership fees for several years without being able to use the facility, she was in SA briefly and specifically went to the gym in Rosebank to cancel the contract in person, as is apparently required. (On 20/10/2013). She completed the form, and this was accepted and she was informed the contract would end. However, since that date the following amounts have been deducted: R418 in November and R522 in December. We received a letter stating that her contract is now on monthly basis. This is NOT what was agreed. She ENDED the contract. Please see to it that her contract is ended and that unlawfully deducted fees are reimbursed to her account. Why would this be so difficult to execute??? This seems to confirm the belief that a gym contract is impossible to ever get out of. She is extremely angry, as are we, as this is money down the drain; it is a direct contravention of her cancellation and appears to be an effort to greedily grab hold of money.
