British Airways Comair
Pay R350 for fragile goods that ended up damaged

I was on a BA flight yesterday leaving OR Tambo international airport at 2pm to Cape Town. My father had built and handcrafted a small wooden side table for me which weighed just over 3kg.

My bag was only 13kg so I thought I would be able to check both in and still be under weight, which wasn't the case. Apparently you are only allowed to check in one item. This was fine as I understand this is the policy, so I was asked to pay R350 extra to check the table in as extra FRAGILE luggage. I thickly wrapped the table in bubble wrap myself and it was supposedly checked in as Fragile, as I had asked. It was also taken away separately and not with my bag because it was fragile.

I arrived in Cape Town only to take it of the conveyer belt DAMAGED! There's a big dent and a crack on the side and the paint even chipped of, that's how hard this FRAGILE item was handled.

This breaks my heart as it was made for me with love and effort and I paid to have it transported with care! Words cannot explain my disappointment and disgust with British Airways.

I did report this to the BA counter on the airport, but I haven't had an apology or a call.
