I am experiencing a huge problem with Vodacom which I've been battling since end January to resolve. I want to warn other consumers not to fall in the same trap. On 12-01-2013 I visited a Vodacom East Rand Mall outlet and was offered an upgrade on one of my cell phone contracts to a Top-Up 2GB Data contract with a new Ipad. The assistant let me sign the contract and handed me a new SIM card for the Ipad and told me that it would be activated in a few hours and that I can start to use it. I started using the Ipad without any worries because this was a Top-up contract and I knew that I couldn't run up a huge bill - this is exactly why I opted for a Top-Up type contract. End January I received an SMS on one of my other Vodacom cell phones to advise me that I have a R5000 data bill... They neglected to tell me that the new contract is only effective from 1 February! I also did'nt get a copy of the contract - only now when I requested it. I followed up at least 10 times with Vodacom to resolve the query - they eventually referred me to the Director of the Vodacom Outlet, but still no assistance - don't know what to do about this. Surely the consumer should be protected?
