Unwillingness to follow up on stock issues

I've applied for a certain phone &handed in all of the required paperwork on the same day with the request to have the phone ready in 3weeks. I asked them to check the system and they confirmed that they DO have stock of the phone. When the 3 weeks passed, without getting any feedback of any kind, I went to the store only to find out that they don't have stock of the phone any longer and only then after I had to ask them did they try (not very hard) phoning around for stock. I requested that they offer me a similar of better deal since it was MTN, not me, who didn't honour their bit of the contract, but they wouldn't have any of it.
I have eventually found another phone deal that I'd like and when I went back to the store... they did not have stock. Bare in mind that the new deals only came out two days ago, on the 2nd of April!
I then tried my luck online via MTN's support feature to find out about the stock, but they simply gave me a phone no. and told me to follow up with a sales consultant myself. I then phoned that number... and got through to the MTN call centre!? The agent had another story about the stock and I am still in the dark &without a phone
