Telkom
Telkom ADSL speed

Telkom keep on fobbing me off regarding my DSL speed - they request that I test my speed using the Ookla [URL Removed] test. This is the most skewed test in favour of the ISP that is available on the net. Do NOT allow this test to determine your download speed - or at least compare it with another service such as [URL Removed]
Difference? Ookla tells me I'm downloading at 1.76Mbps - [URL Removed] tells me I'm downloading at 90Kbps.
As it takes about 10 seconds for a page to open and I can't even listen to streaming audio, guess which one I believe.

Ookla uses multithreading and artificial boosts - it also trims off the fastest 10% of your speed slowest 30% of your speed to provide a skewed result.

And why can no-one at Telkom support tell me where to check the dB of my DSL line on the 10.0.0.2 status page? I suspect that it doesn't exist, as this is the best way of discovering bandwidth compression (slower speeds) that automatically lower to deal with a noisy line/connection.
After all, we don't want to incur any unnecessary call out charge, do we?

P.S. We all mourn Mr. Mandela, but after 6 weeks, isn't it time to change the message saying that your staff are attending memorials?
