Yesterday (19/11/2013) evening my mother received a text message that she exceeded her limit of R3, 900 (not sure who set the limit) on her MTN bill. We were very surprised as her average monthly bill is R473 (as per the invoices we receive every month). A bit confused we went to the MTN branch in Mimosa Mall Bloemfontein asking for assistance because she (65 years old) was just cut off. The lady "assisting" us typed in her account number and said her account was frozen (no outgoing calls etc) because her bill was on R 7, 100 for the current month (08/011/2013 to 19/11/2013). This was IMPOSSIBLE and we queried what the charge was for; she replied that it was for a single data session on the 19th starting from 11:39 am and was billed for R5, 800 (reference number on the screen for the transaction was 46311424). She REFUSED to do a print screen for us saying that we will receive the itemised bill after 07/12/2013 and our account will be frozen until we pay the amount. The strangest part is that her phones data is SWITCHED off and she uses the WiFi at home. This is obviously an error but the only solutions was that we "must pay" and NO INVESTIGATION will take place? We refuse to pay.
