Supposed Outstanding Account

A couple of months ago I went for my upgrade as due every 24months, but the phone I wanted was on a higher package, so determined to get the phone I migrated to the higher package as was always a happy Vodacom customer, until yesterday (02-05-2013) where I received and sms stating "my Vodacom account has been handed over to VVM Debt collectors with an outstanding balance of X amount..." now I phoned VVM to find out what the problem is and aparantly there were funds loaded on my account before I migrated and that amount has not been settled.

So my question to Vodacom is WHY!!!??? was I never notified about any outstanding fees and just get this threat from VVM that legal action will be taken! as they can try it as I have not received any notices of outstanding funds or anything and am more than willing to take this matter further as have seeked legal advice and have more than a strong case to take Vodacom on.

I expect some resolution on this matter as this is unacceptable!! and on a further note I will do everything in my power to steer people away from signing up with Vodacom to avoid the frustration I experienced...
