At the end of January I went into Virgin Active Potchefstroom to give written notice that I want to cancel my virgin active account which was due to expire at the end of February (I did this because I was told that cancellation has to be done in writing at the branch).
Now 8 months later in October I get a phone call from a lawyer saying that I owe money to virgin active and that I must pay as soon as possible to avoid additional charges. The total amount is now at R1220, which I feel is ridiculous because I did what I was supposed to do but because someone at the gym didn't do their job I have to pay?
They told me that I should have gotten proof that I handed in a letter, but who thinks of that? Later they claim that it couldn't be cancelled because there was an outstanding amount, so which is it? After checking my bank statements i noticed that I in fact paid for three months more than I should have, technically they owe me money!
I have agreed to pay the amount by tomorrow, and will do so, but I feel that I was cheated by Virgin Active and just want to avoid legal action. I will never do business with them again, and neither will any of my friends and family.
