I cancelled my contract in February this year due to the fact that Discovery and Virgin Active messed me around so much after back surgery last year. I was offered 4 free months, which I couldn't take up due to my back still being injured although I thanked them for the offer and said I would like to take it up, I was unable to use it at all. At no stage did I commit to a further contract post the free months. Now all of a sudden debit orders are running off my account again. This is against the consumer protection act - I have to commit to a further contract, especially since I did an official cancellation which was confirmed and processed, I have to be offered a 14 day (10 working day) cooling off period, none of which was done. Can be seen as as well. Come Virgin Active, who gives you the right to continue a contract without approval as well as engage a new debit order without approval. Now I need to fight to get 3 months refunded.
