My wife signed a 2 year contract with Zone Fitness in Brackenfell, unbeknown to her at the time I was offered a promotion at my work and we would be relocating to Johannesburg in the next month and a half. My wife was at the gym to sign the official contract and then I broke the news to her that we would be moving to Joburg. We immediately tried to cancel the membership at Zone Fitness Brackenfell. This has been the most difficult thing to do. These guys don't allow cancellation unless you pay 40 percent cancellation fee.
This is completely unreasonable and borderline unlawful. I have handed the case over to my Lawyer who also couldn't get us to cancel for less than 40 percent cancellation fee and we have also reported them to the National Consumer Commission who was also unable to bring the cancellation fee down to a reasonable amount.
How do I justify paying almost R 2000 cancellation fee for a gym my wife has never utilized or even been part of for one month. I warn anybody that is considering signing up with these guys to take the contract home and have it checked out by an attorney first as they don't give you a way out unless you pay 40 percent cancellation fee.
